Can you join the Merchant Navy for free?
This course is free. Becoming a seafarer is not. Pre-sea training at a DG Shipping approved institute has a fee, and so do the medical, passport and some certificates. Many banks give education loans for approved courses.
Company sponsorship helps because it gives you a confirmed place for training at sea. Most sponsored cadets still pay the training fee. Some companies cover part of the cost, usually with a bond to sail with them. Lesson 7 covers the sponsorship tests open each year.
Be careful with offers like a free course with a guaranteed job. No genuine institute or shipping company charges you for a job on a ship. Before you pay anyone, check the institute on the DG Shipping list of approved institutes and the agent on the DG Shipping list of licensed (RPSL) agencies.

Questions about the free course
Is the course really free?
Yes. There is no course fee and no registration charge, and we never ask for card details. You only need to send us your name, class and city.
Do I have to join a paid course afterwards?
No. Many students join our coaching later, but the free course is useful on its own. You will know which route fits you and what to do next.
Will I get a DG Shipping certificate?
No. This is a guidance course. Certificates such as the CDC and the STCW safety courses come only from pre-sea training at a DG Shipping approved institute.
Can I join while I am in Class 10 or 11?
Yes. The earlier you start, the better you can plan your subjects, check your eyesight and prepare for the entrance tests.
Is it online or in the classroom?
Both. Join the lessons online from anywhere, or attend at our centre in Capitol Tower, Survey Chowk, Dehradun. We share the timings on WhatsApp.
Can my parents attend?
Yes, and we encourage it. Lessons 5 and 8, on the medical, costs and fake agents, are especially useful for parents.
